More Products in the Same Time through Set-up Reduction Company ProfileFM Brown's Sons Inc. has seven divisions with four manufacturing facilities, all in Pennsylvania. They were founded in 1871, have 200 employees, and serve the farm, feed, flour, pet products and seed markets. Situation The organization was interested in the application of set-up reduction techniques in their manufacturing facility for animal feed and related products. Solution An MRC field agent was brought in to help reduce set-up by utilizing the lean manufacturing technique of set-up reduction. Results As a result of this project, set-up / changeover times on the Hayssen machine were reduced by 66 percent which allowed 300,000 additional packages per year to be filled in the same amount of time.
